Banyak kalangan yang mengharapkan kemunculan perdana smartphone Nokia dengan WP7 akan terjadi di tahun ini. Pada Mobile World Congress 2011, Jo Harlow, Senior Vice President Nokia, mengisyaratkan produk pertama mereka dengan sistem operasi tersebut akan muncul di tahun 2011 ini. Stephen Elop, CEO Nokia, juga mengharapkan hal sama. Apalagi tekanan mulai terasa dari rekan bisnis baru mereka untuk memproduksi ponsel Nokia berbasis Windows pertama di akhir tahun ini. Sangat disayangkan kenyataan justru bertolak belakang dari harapan.
Dalam interviewnya dengan perusahaan broadcast asal Finlandia (YLE), ketua dewan Nokia, Jorma Ollila, mengatakan bahwa ponsel berbasis Windows ini baru akan diluncurkan di tahun 2012. Dalam kesempatan yang sama ia juga mengatakan bahwa Microsoft bukanlah satu-satunya pilihan mereka. Nokia memiliki kesempatan untuk bekerja sama dengan Google dan sistem operasi Android-nya, serta beberapa perusahaan lainnya, bahkan menggunakan sistem operasi besutannya sendiri (Symbian) masih menjadi pilihan.
