Over 1 000 People Subscribe to Our Booklists Do You
As our number of BookLetters subscriptions continues to climb (currently 1,176) it is clear that this is a service our library patrons appreciate. Who wouldnt enjoy a monthly email from the local library with lists of great new books, audiobooks, and movies in your favorite genres? Now you can place books on hold right through your email with one click. BookLetters is even adding great new features like the ability to browse by series to find other titles in a series you enjoy.
Ready to sign up? Click here for our subscription page, listing our 35 unique book lists created by Library staff. Select the lists that interest you and sign up with your email address at the bottom of the page. Lists update monthly unless otherwise noted (a few lists update biweekly such as our Staff Reads) - that means you can expect one monthly email per list. You can control which lists you will receive and remove yourself from the mailing if you are not satisfied.

Over 21 000 people want Microsoft to keep Cortana Windows Phones upcoming virtual assistant
Last week, we reported a curious incident including a Lumia 920 switching hands through eBay. But that wasnt just any Lumia, rather it was running an early developer build of Windows Phone 8.1 “Blue”, and the switching of hands resulted in a bunch of insights that werent really supposed to leave Microsofts labs for the time being.
Among the snippets of new information around the expected refresh of the OS was a curious piece. We, of course, are referring to Cortana, Windows Phones upcoming virtual assistant that is expected to take Google Now and Apples Siri for a spin.
Named after beloved AI character from the Halo series, Cortanas appeal to the masses of FPS-loving Halo fans was to be expected – Cortana has been ensuring life in the Halo universe continues on since 2001, after all. Having said that, we certainly didnt expect the mere possibility of a Cortana-named assistant to send a ripple through the interwebs strong enough to amass over 21,000 votes on Windows Phones suggestion section in just four short days.
The suggestion itself has a WP fan pleading Microsoft to keep the Cortana naming as a marketing tool that may help win people over to the relatively nascent platform, based on the tonsof positive reactions from fans worldwide. Of course, whether Cortana is simply an early codename for the upcoming assistant remains up in the air. We sure as hell hope it makes it through, though!
